A number of MPs are concerned about the perceived lack of regulation applying to the letting market, it has been revealed.
More than 60 of the elected politicians have signed an early day motion in response to the government's decision to abandon the plans for a national register for landlords and further regulation of the private rented sector.
As part of the document, the effects of rogue landlords and lettings agents on consumers are being discussed.
Ian Potter, Operations Manager of the Association of Residential Letting Agents, noted that housing minister Grant Shapps has said he is willing to work with his organisation to remove unprofessional practioners.
He added that his group "greatly appreciates" the support from those in parliament, as they recognise that the status quo has to change.
It comes after the organisation revealed that rental housing supply is now at an all-time low, with the situation particularly bad in the south-east.
