Bosses 'have to lead by example'

Businesses need to make sure they have bosses who empathise with staff, one expert has claimed.

Shaf Rasul, a dragon on Dragon's Den Online and a judge for the 2010 Orange Leader of the Year Award, noted that the move will help to sustain office morale and also encourages workers to make suggestions that can improve the company.

Due to the economic situation, the most vital ingredient for a boss appears to be the ability to budget properly, whereas this would have traditionally been ranked behind such attributes as appearance, looks and charisma, he added.

The specialist remarked that it is important that those in management positions "lead by example" and take on everything that is said by employees.

It comes after Reabur, a HR consultancy firm, completed a survey that found that 21% of those in jobs feel bullied by their boss, but only 8% admitted to reporting the incidents to anyone.
