'Too easy' for rich to avoid fair tax

Three quarters of Britons think that the tax system is unfair and biased towards the wealthy and corporations.

A survey conducted by YouGov for the Trade Union Congress (TUC) revealed that 75% of people agreed that it was 'too easy for very rich people to get out of paying a fair level of tax'.

And this view wasn't just restricted to the less well off, as more than half of the wealthiest - defined as households making more than £100,000 a year - agreed with the statement.

Similarly, companies and corporations get an easy ride, believe Britons, 69% of whom agreed that they did not pay fair levels of tax.

TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber said: "An astonishingly large majority of people think the tax system is unfair and that it is too easy for big companies and the well-off to get out of paying fair taxes. The public knows that every pound the rich do not pay has to be made up by ordinary people's taxes or by cuts in public services."
The FSA does not regulate tax advice. Tax rules are subject to change.
